Bringing Light to Forgotten Children: The Haske Initiative's Mission
Founder’s Message
Every child deserves a chance to dream, to aspire, and to thrive. The Haske Initiative is not just a response to a societal issue; it's a call to action for each of us. Together, we can illuminate the lives of children who have been left in the shadows.
The Story
In the bustling streets of Lagos, countless children wander without purpose, clinging to passerby in search of food and care. They are not just figures of sympathy; they are living stories of resilience and unrealized potential. Our aim is to transform their existence from mere survival to a journey of dreams realized.
The Problem
- Over 10 million children in Nigeria are out of school, the highest number worldwide (UNICEF, 2023).
- Approximately 9.5 million are Almajiri children in Northern Nigeria, often pushed into street begging and vulnerable to exploitation.
- These children face neglect, hunger, and lack of access to education, placing them at risk of long-term trauma.
What They Experience
- Rejection from society
- Exposure to harsh weather and dangers on the streets
- Peer pressure and the risk of exploitation
- Limited access to education
- Emotional and social neglect
- Persistent hunger and poor hygiene
Why Urgent Attention is Needed
These children are not just statistics; they have dreams worth pursuing. We risk creating a generation without education or hope, undermining national development and the potential for social equity.
